This evening, President Barack Obama will make his 2014 State of the Union Address. It will be viewed on at least thirteen television channels I know about, so you only need to decide what commentary you want to hear along with it. It will be followed by four Republican responses, two official speakers, one unofficial (Rand Paul), and finally one Hispanic. But I'm sure every one of us will have our own opinions about what we hear. My landlord, who is also a good friend, already said he probably would not watch for some of the same opinions I hold about the Obama Administration. So I am equally disinclined, but I will still watch for one simple reason, as the apostle Paul exhorts us…
“I exhort therefore, that, first of all, supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks be made for all men; For kings, and for all that are in authority; that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and honesty. For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Saviour.” – 1Timothy 2:1-3
Regardless of how disillusioned we are about anything that might come out of the mouth of what seems to be a pathological liar, we still need to be able to effectively pray with understanding about those issues he advances and problems he usually creates. So put on your sackcloth and ashes, and do it for the Lord, our Saviour, God, and Guide.
