ACTS 1:3-6
And, Jesus, speaking of the things pertaining to the kingdom of God: and, being assembled together with them, commanded them that they should not depart from Jerusalem, but wait for the promise of the Father, which, saith he, ye have heard of me. For John truly baptized with water; but ye shall be baptized with the Holy Ghost not many days hence.
When they therefore were come together, they asked of him...
First of all, I think it's important to note that the scripture says, "Jesus was assembled together with them...", and He commanded them certain things. But, afterwards, it says, "When they therefore were come together", they asked him other things that were important to them, collectively, as the question our human nature agrees upon, as we consider our commonality.
The scriptures give us two instructions about our connectivity. We are first required to "hold fast to the head", which is Jesus, and then remember that we are "members in particular of one another" supplying what each of us needs by "joints and bands". It is possible for us to come together with Jesus without coming together with one another, until there is that further reason to stretch ourselves beyond ourselves to finally identify with one another in those things we cannot do, or are not even bold enough to acknowledge or say alone.
Secondly, whenever there are commandments for us to fulfill, there is also a promise of the Father, as the provision we need to accomplish those things. It is usually something we need to wait to receive. Jesus told them to go and wait at Jerusalem until they received their promise. What if some of them decided to go to Antioch instead, as if they decided one big city was just as good as another? They wouldn't have received anything. So it's important to be in the right place at the right time to fulfill our obedience to Christ.
